The UTC-W101 Brings Intelligent Self Service Control to Air Reserve Base

Since building and facility management requires tight coordination of resources, recent implementations of touch screen interface technology have proven valuable to increase productivity. It was on this basis that Edd Helms Air Conditioning was commissioned for a multi-facility environmental control system for Homestead Air Reserve Base in Miami, Florida, with a goal to streamlining the supervisory control for building managers. Key to the solution was the implementation of the UTC-W101 Intel® Atom 10.1" All-In-One Touch Computer.   

Requirements

‧ A PC-based interface to allow building managers to easily control their HVAC system
‧ A low power solution to meet power consumption mandates
‧ Operate in areas subject to vibration caused by low frequency output of working compressors
‧ A rugged design and Front panel complying with IP65/NEMA4 protection standard
‧ A reliable but cost-effective solution.

Project Implementation
As part of Edd Helms Air Conditioning project, the UTC-W101 All-In-One Touch Computers are stationed as terminals at convenient locations around each of the 14 facilities. In most cases, each building features two UTC-W101s hardwired to the HVAC control, with a 5-port 10/100 ethernet switch providing the connectivity.

3rd party facility management software was easily configured for the UTC-W101’s touch screen interface, and the UTC-W101’s Atom™ Z510P 1.1 GHz processor provides performance necessary for the graphic interface and sufficient data transfer with the HVAC control.

The UTC-W101 terminals become the daily interface for building management supervisory functions such as setpoint changes or timer overrides, giving building managers immediate control of the environment.

Conclusion

The UTC-W101 was Edd Helms Air Conditioning’s first choice due to its high integration of touchscreen, processor performance and I/O requirement.   The rugged design meets the client need for long term use, and the UTC-W101’s stylish look keeps it an unobtrusive implementation to the facility’s decor.
